Most people wouldn't know what a .doc file is if their lives depended on it.

So take advantage of it and send them a .rtf file -- nobody has to know and you get excellent compatibility.

But only for very simple documents - no cross references, working image formatting/layouting, watermarking, shabby table support, footnotes, embedded styles, ...
